Tra le numerose stelle che si sono esibite nei diversi stage di World Club Dome Winter Edition 2020 sicuramente hanno lasciato il segno nei presenti Mike Cervello e Cesqueaux. Due grandi artisti in singola, con esibizioni sui grandi palcoscenici e produzioni di rilievo. Ma già dal 2019 avevano iniziato questo nuovo progetto che vede i due esibirsi in coppia sotto lo pseudonimo Cervelleaux, letteralmente la fusione dei loro nomi. C’erano molte domande fino alla manifestazione teutonica in merito ai Cervelleaux. Fino ad allora, perché siamo riusciti a intervistarli per voi! Ecco l’intervista completa.

- Cervelleaux è sicuramente uno dei progetti più nuovi sulla scena. Potete spiegarci come è nato?
Giusto! Anzitutto io sono Cesqueaux e lui è Mike Cervello. Abbiamo già prodotto musica da molto tempo. Ci siamo conosciuti al college, eravamo compagni di classe. Veniamo dalla stessa città, e abbiamo sempre avuto lo stesso interesse nel cercare una carriera in questo settore, ma abbiamo sempre avuto anche interessi in generi e stili diversi. Negli anni abbiamo investito anche nel conoscere i nostri stili diversi. Io per esempio sono un po’ più legato alla Urban Community, mentre Mike è più sull’house, più underground, con molte sonorità techno di cui io non mi sono mai curato. Abbiamo iniziato a lavorare insieme perché dopo aver fatto numerosi show separati, abbiamo pensato che potessimo farlo insieme! Abbiamo pensato di unire le energie e perché no fare qualcosa di più grande insieme. Quindi abbiamo iniziato semplicemente facendo dei set insieme. Il primo show è stato in Germania ed è stato pazzesco! E ora siamo qui.
World Club Dome Winter 2020: la nostra esperienza a Düsseldorf
- E’ un progetto a tempo pieno o solo un side project?
Si effettivamente è un side project. Continueremo comunque le nostre carriere sia come Mike Cervello che come Cesqueaux.
- Quali sono i vostri obbiettivi per il progetto Cervelleaux?
E’ molto divertente perché abbiamo iniziato solo facendo dj set e basta, facendo qualche show. Abbiamo ripensato tante volte che non fosse una brutta idea aggiungere anche un po’ di contenuto. Una volta ancora andiamo in una pazza direzione per fare ancora tanta bella musica, perché abbiamo molti progetti musicali per il futuro, decisamente interessanti, ma non possiamo parlarne molto per ora. Solo teneteci d’occhio, se capite cosa intendo (ride).
- Nel 2015 avete rilasciato la traccia Smack! su Barong Family. Come è nata questa traccia?
Anche qui c’è un aneddoto divertente. Perchè Mike ed io come dicevamo prima oltre ad essere della stessa città eravamo compagni di classe. Quindi c’era un nuovo progetto su cui lui stava lavorando, e io avevo fatto un paio di esibizioni, ma facevo uno stile diverso di musica e non avevo davvero interesse per l’house music. Ma Mike si! Un giorno venne a casa mia, mi stavo rilassando e mi disse:“Oh Daniel, ho la demo.”. Ho sentito solo i primi 15 secondi della demo e poi ho cominciato a correre in cucina e ritorno con le mani nei capelli gridando :“Tu sei fottutamente pazzo! Davvero pazzo! Questa è pazzesca!”. Ogni tanto capitano questi momenti. Questo è ciò che fa la differenza tra l’essere solo un dj e un artista. Fare questo tipo di canzoni. Quando abbiamo finito quella canzone è definitivamente stato un equilibrio tra la sua musicalità e la mia visione della musica. E’ solo il momento nella musica. Capite? C’è meno distanzia tra i migliori artisti nella Top100DJS di DJMag e gli artisti underground. Come è stato per noi, serve una traccia come quella. L’hanno suonata tutti da David Guetta a Skrillex, forse Alesso… non ricordo. Arriva il momento in cui smetti di guardare chi la suona perché la suonano tutti. Era pazzesco! Credo seriamente che abbia cambiato le carriere di entrambi.
- Dopo quella traccia avente intenzione di produrre di nuovo insieme nel 2020 come Cervelleaux?
Si! In realtà non lo sappiamo ancora. Ma forse si! (ridono) Non possiamo parlarne troppo per ora.
- Capiteci! Siamo molto curiosi a riguardo perché i vostri stili sono molto diversi e vorremo vedere che tipo di musica ne deriva dalla vostra sinergia.
Penso che attualmente siamo come Einstein nel suo laboratorio. Stiamo solo provando diverse cose per ora, che potrebbero essere incrociate con le sonorità dell’altro, e trovare qualcosa che lavori ben per entrambi. E’ una cosa totalmente differente da quello che facevamo separatamente. In linea di massima cerchiamo la stessa energia di Smack!, perché non ce l’aspettavamo. Non è l’ultima cosa che lanceremo, sicuramente.

- Cervelleaux is definitely one of the newest projects on the scene. Can you explain how it was born?
Quite right! First of all I am Cesqueaux and he is Mike Cervello. We have already produced music for a long time. We met in college, we were classmates. We come from the same city, and we have always had the same interest in looking for a career in this field, but we have always also had interests in different genres and styles. Over the years we have also invested in knowing our different styles. For example, I am a little more connected to the Urban Community, while Mike is more on the house, more underground, with many techno sounds that I have never cared for. We started working together because after doing several separate shows, we thought we could do it together! We thought about joining energies and why not do something bigger together. So we just started making sets together. The first show was in Germany and it was crazy! And now we are here.
- Is Cervelleaux a full-time project or just a side project?
Yes it’s actually a side project. However, we will continue our careers both as Mike Cervello and Cesqueaux.
- What are your goals for the project?
It’s so funny because we only started doing DJ sets and just doing some shows. We have thought many times that it was not a bad idea to add a little more content. Once again we go in a crazy direction to still make a lot of beautiful music, because we have many musical projects for the future, definitely interesting, but we can’t talk about it so much for now. Just keep an eye on us, if you know what I mean (lol).
- In 2015 you released the track Smack! on Barong Family. How did this track come about?
Here there’s another funny story. There was a new project he was working on, and I had a couple of performances, but I was doing a different style of music and I really had no interest in house music. But Mike yes! One day he came to my house, I was relaxing and he said, “Oh Daniel, I have the demo.” I only heard the first 15 seconds of the demo and then I started running into the kitchen and back with my hands in my hair shouting: “You are fucking crazy! Really crazy! This is crazy! ”. Sometimes these moments happen. This is what makes the difference between being just a DJ and an artist. Make this kind of songs. When we finished that song it was definitely a balance between his musicality and my vision of music. It is only the moment in music. Do you understand? There is less distance between the best artists in DJMag’s Top100DJS and underground artists. As it was for us, we need a track like that. They all played it, from David Guetta to Skrillex, maybe Alesso… I don’t remember. The moment comes when you stop looking at who plays it because everyone plays it. It was crazy! I really believe that that track has changed both our career.
- After that track are you going to produce together again in 2020 as Cervelleaux?
Yes! For real we don’t know yet. But maybe yes! (lol) We can’t talk too much about it for now.
- Your’ve to understand us! We are very curious about it because your styles are very different and we would like to see what kind of music rise from your synergy.
I think we are currently like Einstein in his laboratory. We are just trying different things for now, which could be crossed with each other’s sounds, and find something that works well for both. It is a totally different thing from what we did separately. Basically we are looking for the same energy as Smack !, because we did not expect it. It is not the last thing we will launch, certainly.

I’ll starts my experience with music in the same way as I do today: listening. When I was a teenager I was really addicted to metal music, especially Power Metal. I evolved to metalcore, post hardcore ecc. before meeting Skrillex on my way. So I started my interest in electronic dance music, living in a club, Vibe Music Zone, here in my town as a PR. I experienced a lot about live shows, club management and all that can walk around a club. With some mates by there we started a radio show. On Facebook first, than 2 years in a local radio, Radio Like, and one at Radio Loco. Here as art director and founder of The Garden Show, where my selection was played. 31st December 2020 I left my activity as a speaker to keep in touch more with music biz, studying at Point Blank Music School.
