Ma noi di youBEAT lo abbiamo intervistato al Number One Disco (Erbusco, BS), e abbiamo avuto la prova che oltre ad essere un ragazzo molto alla mano, divertente, e che col suo sorriso farebbe innamorare qualsiasi ragazza, ha anche un lato più profondo (che noi vi sveleremo).
Il set del giovane è stato un crescendo di energia con un finale da numeri uno. È uno dei pochi sulla piazza dell’Edm a lasciarti con un sorriso stampato in faccia alla fine della sua performance. È stato come un climax, che parte dalle sonorità più datate della sua carriera fino ad esplodere con le più forti hit hardstyle, per poi ricadere in una semplice “time to say goodbye” per salutare tutti.
Insomma, possiamo dire che l’olandese dalla chioma dorata sa il fatto suo!

Ecco a voi qualche domanda, che sicuramente vi sarete posti almeno una volta alla sua vista!
- La prima cosa che vediamo su di te sono i tuoi tatuaggi. Quanti ne hai? Ce n’è uno in particolare che per te ha più significato rispetto ad altri?
Wow, questa è una domanda difficile…Guarda le mie mani, quanti ne riesci a contare? È dura! Sono tanti, ne ho perso il conto. Ti mostro quello sulla mia schiena: è la sagoma dei miei genitori, con il nostro cognome, ‘Claessens’. A sinistra c’è papà, mentre a destra ho mamma; nel passeggino ci sono io da piccolo. È molto significativo per me.
- Oltre a produrre e a fare il dj, sei anche un vlogger molto attivo. Pensi che sia un modo per distinguerti dagli altri artisti?
Sai, non riesco a smettere di fare vlog. Tuttora faccio dei piccoli aftermovie! Ieri ho pure iniziato a streammare su Twitch, che è un altro modo per parlare con i miei fan.
In ogni caso, penso che i vlog siano una cosa molto interessante da fare per un artista, perché ti permettono di avere un legame con il pubblico. Si tratta soltanto di fare qualcosa oltre alla musica, in modo che i miei fan si divertano!
- C’è una ragione perché suoni a petto nudo?
Sì, ed è molto semplice. Muoio di caldo dopo soli 15 minuti, proprio perché mi muovo un sacco, e una canotta poi diventa scomoda. Quindi diciamo che è una questione di comfort. Quando ero più giovane, suonavo mezzo nudo anche da batterista. Quando suonavo la batteria ero fradicio, ed era normale per me levarmi la maglietta. Quindi ora quando se non mi tolgo la maglietta entro 20 minuti, la gente grida “Via la maglietta! Via la maglietta!”.
- C’è un collegamento tra il tuo nome e quello di tuo padre?
Anche mio papà si chiama Toni, precisamente Toni Peroni. Quindi, mi sarei dovuto chiamare Toni Peroni Junior, ma ho deciso di tenere solo Tony Junior, perché altrimenti sarebbe stato troppo lungo. Anche il nome di mio nonno è Toni! E il mio bisnonno si chiamava Ton. Quindi sì, è tutto collegato.
- Che ci dici delle tue prossime release e collaborazioni?
Tra tre settimane esce una mia traccia su Smash The House, e ho una collaborazione con i Wolfpack. Poi uscirà una traccia con SWACQ: è un mio caro amico e anche un grande produttore, ha anche lavorato con Tiësto. Usciranno anche dei brani miei, quindi sì, c’è molta musica in arrivo!

Dj, producer, showman, vlogger but also a charming heartbreaker. Tony Junior could be summed up like this.
However, we interviewed him at Number One Disco (Erbusco, Italy), and we had the proof that beyond being a down-to-earth, funny guy, and that makes every girl fall in love with him, he also has a deeper side (that we’ll show you).
His set was a powerful crescendo, with a number one ending. He’s one of the few on the Edm market that leave you with a big smile at the end of his performance. It’s been like a climax, that started from his oldest career sonorities, until the explosion with his biggest hardstyle hits; at the end, he greeted everyone with a sad ‘it’s time to say goodbye’.
Well, the golden-haired Dutch knows what he’s doing!

- The first thing we see on you are your tattoos. How many have you got? Is there a specific one that means more than the others for you?
Wow, that’s a hard question…Look at my hands, how many would you count? It’s so hard! So many of them, I lost track. I’ll show you the one on my back: it’s the silhouette of my parents, with our family name, ‘Claessens’. On the left there’s dad, whereas on the right I’ve got mum; in the stroller there’s me as a baby. It’s pretty meaningful to me.
- Along with producing and DJing, you’re also an active vlogger. Do you think it’s a way for distinguishing yourself from the other artists?
You know, I can’t stop vlogging. I still make some little aftermovies! Yesterday I also started streaming on Twitch, another way to speak to my fans. Anyway, I think that vlogging is a very interesting thing to do as an artist, to connect with your crowd.
It’s just something besides music I can do to entertain my supporters!
- Is there a reason why you always perform shirtless?
Yes! The reason is that after only 15 minutes I get hot due to the fact that I move a lot, and the shirt becomes uncomfy. So let’s say it’s a comfort thing. When I was young, I used to play shirtless also as a drummer. When I was playing the drums, I was sweaty, and it was normal for me to take my shirt off. So now when I don’t take my shirt off within 20 minutes during my shows, people scream “Shirt off! Shirt off!”
- Is there a connection between your name and your father’s name?
My father’s also called Toni, precisely Toni Peroni. So, I was supposed to become Toni Peroni Junior, but I decided to keep only Tony Junior, because otherwise it would have been too long. My grandfather’s name is Toni, too! And my grand-grandfather was called Ton. So yeah, it’s all connected.
- What about your next releases and collaborations?
I have a track coming up in three weeks on Smash The House, and I have a collaboration with Wolfpack. Then I’ve got a track coming out with SWACQ: he’s a good friend of mine and a great producer, and he had worked with Tiësto.
I’ve also got some solo tracks coming out, so yeah it’s a lot of music coming!
