Before his set on the rebuilt mainstage of Tomorrowland Belgium, our Matteo Villa chatted with Matt from MEDUZA about his feelings, latest single “Melodia“, next goals, new live show, Aeterna Records and no-phone policy!

Matteo: We’re happy to be here with Matt from MEDUZA!

Matt MEDUZA: Happy to be here, they did a miracle!

Matteo: You’ll perform in the mainstage where there will be more focus on music without that usual show, how do you feel?

Matt MEDUZA: I like the fact mainstage is closer to the crowd, I prefer like this and this year it will be iconic and unforgettable as they managed to rebuilt in less than 48h the destroyed mainstage.

Matteo: Let’s start with the first question about “MELODIA“, your new single on Aeterna Records in collaboration with Argy and PolyAnna out today that in my opinion is a perfect vibe with Tomorrowland!
How did you prepare the set and what do you think more special or challenging of this festival?
Matt MEDUZA: I’m curious to see the reaction on “Melodia”, I know Argy for years and it wasn’t born as collaboration actually (and this is the first time I tell this story).. We received the track from the singer, and Argy got the same thing.

Matteo: Then you were both working on it separately, unaware of each other?
Matt MEDUZA: Exactly. We were working on the same track in two different studios, completely disconnected.
But I often talk to Argy — we’re friends — and he sent me the song saying: “This could be great to do together, I feel a shared vibe.” And I told him, “Wait a second… I know this song.” I checked my folder and it was exactly the one we were working on. Identical. Spot on. So I told him: “Well, at this point we have to do it together. It’s destiny, right?”

Matteo: Absolutely, for sure.

Matt MEDUZA: And now here we are — it’s release day, and we’re playing it today at Tomorrowland.
I’m really happy and super curious to see the reaction.
And especially today, I’ll be able to play the new single — our new radio single — which we think will be out after the summer. We’re still testing it.

Matteo: That’s great!
Now a more general question about your current situation. You’re among the most streamed Italian artists in the world, breaking multiple records.

Recently, “Piece of Your Heart” hit over a billion streams on Spotify. Your sound is clearly inspiring a new generation of both Italian and international producers. That’s incredible and makes Italians really proud.
What are your next goals, generally speaking — as Meduza? Potential targets in terms of collaborations or artistic directions? Any changes on the horizon?

Matt MEDUZA: Right now, our main focus is the live show.
We’re not abandoning DJ sets, just setting them aside a bit. We believe bringing this kind of show to clubs and festivals is a new concept — something missing in the industry.
Most are either DJs or live acts — no one’s really found that middle ground yet.
And we want to bring something more commercial in feel — because sure, others are doing it, but it’s very much pure electronic.

We want to bring 100% of Meduza to the stage.
When we do a DJ set, it’s like bringing only 50% of the project. With the full live show, we’re all up there, giving it our all, and offering people a complete experience.

Matteo: Exactly — a full, immersive experience.

Matt MEDUZA: Exactly. So that’s our next focus. But also, we’re working on new music — we’ve been focusing a lot on club tracks lately, musically speaking. But we do miss the more radio-friendly side too.

Because, let’s face it — times have changed.
Radio doesn’t work the way it used to.
Now, if you’re not viral on social media, it’s much harder to create global hits.
So we’re trying to find the right balance to do it all.
But the most important thing is that as long as we’re having fun, we’ll keep making things — and the rest will follow.

Matteo: And this ties into my next question — about Eterna, your project that’s more club-focused. You’ve been developing the label and signing some incredible talents, like SQU4RE I know.
Matt MEDUZA: we literally lost him in Ibiza!

Matteo: What was the original concept behind Aeterna? Why this name?
And can you reveal any upcoming talents or plans — maybe even a touring format for the label?
Matt MEDUZA: So, right now we don’t have a set plan to take the label on tour, but… it’s possible. Let’s see how things go. We’ll definitely do it in the future. For now, the label is still growing — and doing great numbers.
The most important thing for us was to create a space where we could experiment with new sounds that we could bring into our own tracks, whether they’re radio or club-focused.
And also to give a platform to new talents, like we’ve done with Genesi — who’s been with us in the studio from the very beginning — and now with Miss Dre and Okayval too.

Giving these artists the chance to share their sound with the world is something we really care about.
Especially now that the music market moves so fast — there’s a real need for fresh talent.
There are so many talented people out there who just don’t have access to the mainstream, often because of ridiculous label rules — “If you’re not already a name, if you don’t get streams, if you’re not viral…” — the usual dynamics. We care about the music first, and the people behind it second.
If the rest comes, great. If not, it will come in time — the important thing is that we’re putting out something we truly believe in.

Matteo: That’s amazing!
Now, a more specific question about your other collaborations — let’s talk about Our House with James Hype.

One standout aspect you introduced there was the “no phone” policy.
After doing multiple shows, how does it feel to perform for a crowd that’s really present in that way — especially now, where there’s such pressure to document everything on social media?

Meduza: It’s a very current topic. But honestly, the no-phone policy for Our House was never about banning phones. In fact, we’ve removed it this year — not because people were using phones, but because the goal was never to ban them. It was more of a message — like, “Hey, don’t overthink filming, just have fun.”

The truth is, what we see on social media today is just 30-second highlights of highlights. We’re playing from 11:30 p.m. to 6 in the morning. Thirty seconds don’t change the night.

What matters to us is that people come ready to enjoy themselves with us. If they want to film the drop — go ahead. Those 30 seconds are fine. The important thing is to stay connected with the moment and have fun with your friends.

Matteo: Absolutely! That question was actually from Rudy from the team. The next one — the last — is from Laurin, our new Austrian reporter from Vienna.
So: earlier you mentioned MEDUZA³ show as a direction — your future focus.
Will your live setup become your main identity going forward? Are you planning to bring it more broadly to festivals, like Tomorrowland, and not just club residencies?

Matt MEDUZA: Exactly — we brought it to our Ibiza residency to show it could work in a club.
We also brought it to clubs like the K, to prove it works at electronic festivals too.
And now we can even bring it back to clubs.

We’ll be finishing the year with a show at the Brooklyn Mirage — super exciting. Maybe we’ll wrap up the Ibiza residency too — we’ll see. But yes, we want to make this setup a fixed part of our identity. We’re planning a full tour in 2026 — fully live, with afterparties and DJ sets where we’ll each have fun individually.

Matteo: Very cool. That sounds amazing. Thanks so much, Matt — to you and the whole team!
