Il 2020 è appena iniziato e la nuova decade si è aperta nel migliore dei modi con tre giornate all’insegna della musica elettronica (11/12/13 gennaio) in quello che è il primo grande evento dell’anno. Stiamo parlando dell’edizione invernale del format di Bernd Breiter e Big City Beats: World Club Dome Winter Edition.
Ci troviamo nella capitale del land della Renania-Settentrionale-Vestfalia: Düsseldorf. Più precisamente all’interno della MERKUR SPIEL – ARENA, attuale casa della squadra calcistica “Fortuna Düsseldorf”, spesso adibita per ospitare concerti musicale (AC/DC, Beyoncè e Bon Jovi, sono soltanto alcuni dei tanti artisti che si sono esibiti all’interno di essa). Per l’occasione lo stadio ha aperto le porte a circa 100.000 clubbers provenienti non solo dalla Germania. Location logisticamente strategica, situata vicino alle fermate di diversi bus.
Durante i 3 giorni della durata della manifestazione musicale, circa 170 djs si sono alternati tra le consolle dei diversi stage – completamente riscaldati – presenti all’interno dell’arena. Oltre allo spettacolare mainstage erano presenti altri 7 palchi secondari posizionati nei diversi padiglioni lungo i corridoi che circondavano internamente lo stadio. Gli stage, grazie al lavoro di diversi collettivi tra cui quello di DJMag.de, durante i tre giorni hanno visto allestimenti differenti, dando così vita a 20 clubs.
In questo modo, è stato possibile passare da un genere musicale all’altro (ovviamente tutti strettamente collegati all’electronic dance music). Inoltre, nei corridoi erano presenti diversi stand dedicati a un’ampia scelta riguardante il cibo: hamburger, pizza, hot dog, burrito, kebab, etc. Non sono mancati anche gli stand dedicati all’acquisto di merchandising e gadget da festival (maschere, luci, brillantini, etc).

Il mainstage, – abituale terreno di gioco del Fortuna Düsseldorf – posizionato al centro dell’arena e accessibile facilmente tramite diverse entrare, ha spiccato per la sua vastità lasciando tutti senza fiato. Un enorme visual posizionato centralmente dietro la consolle e altri due a sinistra e a destra di essa, hanno dominato la scena. Il tetto presentava una struttura formata da diversi coni posizionati all’ingiù, la quale durante le esibizioni, spostandosi dall’alto verso il basso, ha illuminato e colorato il mainstage. Impianti luci e audio d’eccellenza hanno reso il tutto ancora più eccezionale.
Giorno 1
La manifestazione si è aperta al Venerdì con una fantastica cerimonia di apertura, uno spettacolo per gli occhi e per le orecchie, che ha subito fatto capire quanto Big City Beats World Club Dome Winter Edition facesse sul serio. L’orario dedicato al primo giorno è stato: 16.00 – 01.10. In queste 9 ore circa hanno suonato diversi djs locali e non, tra cui: Plastik Funk, Klingande, EDX, Ummet Ozcan, Robin Schulz, Zonderling e Dannic (che abbiamo intervistato). Alle 19 abbiamo presenziato alla conferenza stampa con Bernd Breiter, CEO dell’evento che ha presentato la manifestazione di persona. Nello stage “Tante Mia Tanzt” c’è stata anche un po’ d’Italia, grazie al dj set del nostro orgoglio italiano Angemi, che come sempre è riuscito a trasmettere la propria energia al pubblico.
Il dj siciliano al termine della sua performance ha lasciando il posto a un Quintino in grande forma, e molto apprezzato dal pubblico tedesco. Parlando del mainstage, sicuramente non è passato inosservato il dj set dei Vini Vici, con la loro indistinguibile PSY Trance. A chiudere questa prima intensa giornata è stato l’attesissimo Martin Garrix, che con uno show mozzafiato ha mostrato a tutti il motivo per il quale è uno degli artisti più ricercati della scena.
Giorno 2
Il secondo giorno l’arena ha aperto le porte un’ora prima, ovvero alle 15.00, per chiuderle alle 04.00. Di nuovo Dannic, che dopo averci concesso un’intervista, questa volta pronto a scaldare il pubblico del mainstage, poi: Moguai, Firebeatz, Curbi, Laidback Luke e Mesto con il quale abbiamo fatto quattro chiacchiere. Questa seconda giornata è stata arricchita dall’allestimento dello Zombie Stage (all’interno del padiglione 6) dedicato agli Hardest styles, con ospiti del calibro di Darren Styles (che ci ha concesso un’intervista!), Mandy, TNT, Frontliner, Atmozfears, Wildstylez e SEFA.
A testimoniare l’importanza dell’Hardstyle durante questo day 2 è stata l’esibizione sul mainstage dei Da Tweekaz, i quali hanno successivamente lasciato il posto a Steve Aoki. Questa volta, però, a chiudere sul mainstage è toccato al più acclamato dai ravers e clubbers tedeschi: Le Shuuk (il dj tedesco che ha insegnato all’astronauta italiano Luca Parmitano come suonare). Il suo energico dj set si è concluso alle ore 03.00, orario nella quale molte persone si sono spostate verso gli altri stage, per ancora un’ora di musica.
Giorno 3
L’ultimo giorno è arrivato a malincuore molto velocemente, con un orario un po’ più soft: 16.00-23.00. Tempo di entrare e ci siamo troviamo subito di fronte a un nome molto curioso: Mike Candys. Dj svizzero conosciuto per molte delle sue produzioni risalenti a 7-9 anni fa come “One Night in Ibiza”, il quale di fronte al pubblico tedesco ha suonato alcuni dei maggiori successi edm della decade appena conclusa. Maurice West, intervistato dopo ADE, ha regalato una grande performance provando anche diversi ID di cui ci aveva parlato. Blasterjaxx, Mattn, Garmiani, Retrovision (anche lui intervistato), LNY TNZ e Dr Phunk, sono stati soltanto alcuni dei nomi che si sono esibiti nei diversi stage all’interno dell’arena durante questa ultima giornata di WCD Winter Edition.
Quando li abbiamo intervistati ci avevano detto di una performance frizzante. Così è stato il pubblico pare aver gradito. Parliamo del nuovissimo progetto “Cervelleaux” (Mike Cervello + Cesqeaux) che hanno regalato emozioni anche grazie al moshpit in cui ha partecipato Cesqueaux (parleremo più approfonditamente di loro in un prossimo articolo). Nel frattempo vi riportiamo una nuovissima ID suonata durante il loro set.

Don Diablo, sostituto d’eccellenza dell’assente collega Afrojack, si è esibito alle 20.40 sul mainstage, per poi lasciare il posto a due esperti di “closing set”: Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. Il loro è stato uno show esplosivo, contrassegnato da un forte coinvolgimento del pubblico, da un crowd control all’insegna del divertimento (VIDEO), e da una nuovissima traccia con Timmy Trumpet che ha fatto saltare tutta la folla del Big City Beats World Club Dome Winter Edition.

Vogliamo dare anche qualche informazione ai nostri lettori per un’eventuale permanenza in futuro a World Club Dome Winter Edition.
Il festival è molto ben organizzato. A partire dalla possibilità di affittare, immediatamente fuori dai settori dello stadio, un comodo armadietto dove riporre la propria roba e recuperarla quando serve. Locker, utile anche per evitare la classica fila per i guardaroba. Non solo prato per assistere agli show del mainstage, ma accesso alle tribune direttamente dai corridoi delle aree Drink & Food e dagli stage secondari. Stage secondari assolutamente da non sottovalutare in quanto ricchi di grandi artisti. All’interno del festival, il pagamento per tutti i servizi è legato al noleggio su cauzione di una carta magnetica. Su di essa è possibile caricare monete virtuali di pari valuta all’euro.
Per i raver che volessero viversi il festival in maniera più agiata vi è la possibilità di acquistare i biglietti VIP. Ticket, che offrivano l’opportunità di entrare in un’area riservata nella quale vi sono molti divani dove prendersi un attimo di pausa, una cucina un po’ maggiormente educata e un accesso diretto alla tribuna centrale.
Per chi volesse fare ancora meglio si può ampliare il pacchetto con un’ulteriore area esclusiva, la Glamour dove vengono ospitate numerosi influencer tedeschi, affezionati al festival, oppure acquistare la Front Lane, l’accesso alla zona immediatamente sotto al palco.
Infine, vogliamo raccontarvi uno dei momenti più belli di questa esperienza. Domenica, dopo la chiusura dell’evento, c’è stato un breve, ma emozionante, after party alla fermata del filobus. Tanti ravers di nazioni diverse riuniti a ballare attorno a un ragazzo in carrozzina con gravi problemi motori che ha messo musica da una cassa. Un momento da pelle d’oca, che fa capire quanto questo ambiente crei forti legami e ricordi indelebili nei cuori delle persone.
Un evento davvero di tutto rispetto che ogni volta riesce a migliorarsi, nonostante l’ormai alto livello già raggiunto. Ringraziamo Bernd Breiter e tutto lo staff di Big City Beats e World Club Dome, per la disponibilità e il grande lavoro svolto. 2020 has just begun and the new decade has opened in the best way with three days dedicated to electronic music (11/12/13 January) in what is the first big event of the year. We are talking about the winter edition of the Bernd Breiter and Big City Beats: World Club Dome Winter Edition format.
We are located in the capital of the Land of North Rhine-Westphalia: Düsseldorf. More precisely, inside the MERKUR SPIEL – ARENA, current home of the “Fortuna Düsseldorf” football team, often used to host musical concerts (AC / DC, Beyoncè and Bon Jovi, are just some of the many artists who have performed inside of it). For the occasion, the stadium opened its doors to around 100,000 clubbers from not only Germany. Logistically strategic location, located near several bus stops.
During the 3 days of the musical event, around 170 DJs alternated between the consoles of the different stages – fully heated – present inside the arena. In addition to the spectacular mainstage there were 7 other secondary stages positioned in the various pavilions along the corridors that surrounded the stadium inside. The internships, thanks to the work of various collectives including that of DJMag.de, during the three days saw different set-ups, thus creating 20 clubs.
In this way, it was possible to switch from one musical genre to another (obviously all closely related to electronic dance music). In the corridors there were several stands dedicated to a wide choice regarding food: hamburgers, pizza, hot dogs, burritos, kebabs, etc. There were also stands dedicated to the purchase of merchandising and festival gadgets (masks, lights, glitter, etc.).
Day 1
The mainstage, – the usual playing field of Fortuna Düsseldorf – positioned in the center of the arena and easily accessible through different entrances, has stood out for its vastness, all of which are breathless. A huge visual positioned centrally behind the console and two others to the left and right of it dominated the scene. The roof has a structure made up of several cones positioned in a single one, which during the performances, moving from top to bottom, illuminated and colored the stage. Excellent lighting and audio systems have made everything even more exceptional.
The event opened on Friday with a fantastic ceremony, a show for the eyes and ears, which immediately made it clear how awesome Big City Beats World Club Dome Winter Edition was. The timetable dedicated to the first day was: 16.00 – 01.10. In these 9 hours, several local and non-local DJs have played, including: Plastik Funk, Klingande, EDX, Ummet Ozcan, Robin Schulz, Zonderling and Dannic (whom we interviewed). At 7 pm we attended the press conference with Bernd Breiter, CEO of the event who presented it. In the stage “Tante Mia Tanzt” there was also in a little bit of Italy, with the dj set of our Italian pride Angemi, who as always managed to transmit its energy to the ravers.
The Sicilian DJ at the end of his performance left the jog to Quintino in great shape, and highly appreciated by the German public. About the mainstage, the DJ set of Vini Vici certainly did not go unnoticed, with their indistinguishable PSY Trance. To close this first intense day was the highly anticipated Martin Garrix, who with a breathtaking show showed everyone the reason for who is one of the most sought after artists on the scene.
Day 2
On the second day, the arena opened its doors an hour earlier, or at 15.00, to close them at 04.00. Again Dannic, who after the interview with us, this time ready to burn the mainstage audience, then: Moguai, Firebeatz, Curbi, Laidback Luke and Mesto, that tell us some new about him. This second day was enriched by the preparation of the Zombie Stage (inside Hall 6) dedicated to the most difficult styles, with guests of the caliber of Darren Styles (who granted us the interview!), Mandy, TNT, Frontliner, Atmozfears, Wildstylez and SEFA.
A testament to the importance of Hardstyle during this day 2 was the performance on the mainstage by Da Tweekaz, which were left in place by Steve Aoki. This time, however, to close on the stage it was the most acclaimed by the German ravers and clubbers: Le Shuuk (the German DJ who taught the Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano how to play). His energetic DJ set ended at 03.00, a time in which many people moved to the other stages, for another hour of music.
Day 3
The last day arrived very quickly, with a slightly softer timetable: 16.00-23.00. Time to enter and we immediately found ourselves faced with a very curious name: Mike Candys. Swiss DJ has known for many of his productions dating back to 7-9 years ago as “One Night in Ibiza”, which in front of the German public has played some of the greatest hits of the decade just ended. Maurice West, interviewed after ADE, gave a great performance by also trying different IDs that we had talked about. Blasterjaxx, Mattn, Garmiani, Retrovision (also interviewed), LNY TNZ and Dr Phunk, some of the names that have been exhibited in the various stages within the arena have been identified during this last day of WCD Winter Edition.
When we interviewed them we talked about a sparkling performance. So it was the audience seems to have liked. We are talking about the brand new “Cervelleaux” project (Mike Cervello + Cesqeaux) which gave emotions also thanks to the moshpit in which Cesqueaux participated (we will talk more about them in a future article). In the meantime, we bring you a brand new ID played during their set.
Don Diablo, substitute of excellence of Afrojack, performed at 8.40 pm on the mainstage, before leaving the consolle to the two most “closing set” experts: Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. Their was an explosive show, marked by a strong audience involvement, by a fun-filled crowd control (VIDEO), and by a brand new track with Timmy Trumpet that blew up the Big City Beats World Club crowd Dome Winter Edition.
We also want to give our readers some information for a possible future experience at World Club Dome Winter Edition.
The festival is very well planned. Starting from the possibility of renting, immediately outside the sectors of the stadium, a convenient locker to store your stuff and retrieve it when needed. Locker, also useful for avoiding the classic line for wardrobes. Not only lawn to attend the mainstage shows, but access to the stands directly from the corridors of the Drink & Food areas and from the secondary stages. Secondary stages absolutely not to be underestimated as they are rich in great artists. Within the festival, payment for all services is linked to the rental of a magnetic card on bail. On it you can load virtual currencies of the same currency as the euro.
For the raver who want to live the festival in a more comfortable way there is the possibility to buy VIP tickets. Tickets, which offered the opportunity to enter a reserved area where there are many sofas where you can take a break, a slightly more polite kitchen and direct access to the central grandstand.
For those wishing to do even better, the package can be expanded with an additional exclusive area, the Glamor where numerous German influencers, linked to the festival, are hosted, or purchase Front Lane, access to the area immediately below the stage.
Finally, we want to tell you about one of the best moments of this experience. On Sunday, after the closing of the event, there was a short but exciting after party at the trolleybus stop. Many ravers from different nations gathered to dance around a boy in a wheelchair with serious movement problems who put music from a speaker. A goosebumps moment, which makes it clear how much this environment creates strong bonds and indelible memories in people’s hearts.
A truly respectable event that manages to improve every time, despite the already high level already achieved.
