VISION è giunto al termine della terza stagione, e festeggia proponendo CURBI come special guest a L’Andy Live Music, al suo quarto show in Italia (3 nel 2016).
Il 18enne inglese, “scoperto” e supportato da Oliver Heldens, ha nel curriculum ben cinque original su Spinnin’ Records a partire dal singolo d’esordio “Discharge“, oltre a numerosi remix ufficiali.
La line up di accompagnamento è sempre la stessa, residente per tutta la stagione e composta da:

Il set proposto da Curbi è stato di vario genere, dove non sono mancate le sue produzioni e ha alternato hit del passato con nuove sonorità che sentiremo sempre più da parte dell’artista.
Prima di una cena pre-serata con lo staff e lo special guest inglese, seguita da una gara sui go kart, Matteo Villa ha intervistato Curbi sul “Vision Bus”.
Quando hai iniziato a produrre e quando a suonare?
Ho iniziato a produttore circa quattro anni fa. Da piccolo, all’età di 7 anni, ho ricevuto il mio primo drum kit ed è cosi’ che tutto è iniziato. Verso i 14 anni, ho iniziato ad utilizzare il mio primo software chiamato Magix Music Maker, per poi passare a FL Studio (molto complesso ai tempi). Due anni dopo, all’età di 16 anni, ho inviato i miei progetti musicali a Oliver Heldens e inaspettatamente il sogno diventò realtà. Invece, ho iniziato a suonare circa 6 mesi dopo la firma della prima release, circa due anni fa.
Come hai incontrato Oliver Heldens e quanto è stato importante per il tuo sviluppo artistico?
Ascoltavo e ascolto ancora la sua musica molto spesso. È stata una vera guida per me perché quando ho sentito “Gecko”, sono stato spinto a provare a produrre qualcosa di nuovo, seguendo quei suoni così innovativi. Ho iniziato a inviargli e-mail ma non mi ha risposto fino all’ultima traccia (“Discharge”), che ha inviato immediatamente a Spinnin’ Records.
Cosa pensi del suono mainstream attuale e come si svilupperà o cambierà nei prossimi anni?
È bello perché ci sono sempre più stili e suoni nel mondo. Un sacco di persone stanno cercando di replicare lo stile dei “The Chainsmokers”, ma penso che sia comunque bello che oggi esistano molti generi e possibilità di sperimentare e provare nuovi suoni.
Se fossi una leggenda della musica, quale saresti?
Bella domanda! Beh non lo so, ovviamente amo Tiesto, ma credo che sarei un membro del leggendario trio Swedish House Mafia.
Cosa pensi della scena italiana? Quali sono i tuoi artisti italiani preferiti?
Questo è il mio quarto spettacolo qui in Italia, ne ho fatti tre in 2016. Amo l’energia e i clubber italiani. Ci sono molti buoni artisti italiani, come ad esempio i Marnik!
Quali sono i plugin che usi di solito?
Personalmente i miei preferiti sono Massive, Nexuse, Spire, Sylenth1 ma non ho molti plugin di effettistica.
All’inizio di giugno la tua nuova traccia verrà rilasciata e stai giocando a Tomorrowland. Stiamo per scoprire il nuovo stile CURBI come la tua ultima traccia “Shinai”? Puoi dirci qualcosa sulle prossime collaborazioni?
In giugno rilascerò un nuovo EP composto da 4 brani su Spinnin ‘Records! Voglio cercare di sviluppare il mio stile pur mantenendo i miei elementi chiave. Recentemente ho presentato “Bruh” con il mio amico Mesto, ma ho anche finito una nuova traccia in collaborazione con Lucas & Steve e Mike Williams. Sto lavorando anche ad un nuovo progetto con Hasse de Moor.
Qual è il tuo rapporto con la tua etichetta principale Spinnin’ Records? A proposito dell’industria musicale, cosa pensi dei free downloads, i gate e i servizi di streaming?
Il mio rapporto con Spinnin è fantastico, sono sempre molto aperti e mi stanno formando! Penso che se sei un artista alle prime armi, i gates e i free download sono un’ottima opzione per crescere il tuo pubblico e la tua fanbase. Per quanto riguarda lo streaming, è incredibile perché in passato potevi comprare musica su Beatport, mentre ora ci sono molti servizi come Spotify, Apple Music che stanno rivoluzionando tutto!.
When did you start producing and then the time when you started djing?
I started production around four years ago. Before then, when I turned 7 actually I got my first drum kit and that’s when all began.
But around fourteen years old, I got my first software called Magix Music Maker, then I moved to FL Studio (that was really complex at that time). Two years later, at the age of sixteen, I sent my music projects to Oliver Heldens and the dream came true. I actually started djing about six months after I got signed, properly two years from now.
How did you meet Oliver Heldens and how much has he been important for your artistic development?
I use to listen to all his music all the time. He was a real influence for me because when I heard “Gecko” it pushed me to trying producing something new, following his sound because it was so innovative. I started sending e-mails to him but he didn’t answer me until the last track (“Discharge”), which he sent immediately to Spinnin’ Records.
What do you think about actual mainstream sound and how will it develop and charge in the next years?
It’s crazy because there are always more styles and sounds going on. Lots of people are trying now to replicate “The Chainsmokers” sound but I think it’s cool that nowadays there are many genres and possibilities to experiment and try new sounds.
If you were a music legend, which one will you be?
Good question! Well I don’t know, obviously I love Tiesto but I think I would be a member of Swedish House Mafia, amazing legendary trio.
What do you think about italian scene? Who are you favourite italian artists?
This is my fourth show here in Italy, I did three ones in 2016. I love italian crowds and energy. There are many good italian artists such as Marnik!
Which are the best plugins you usually use most?
Personally my favourite are massive, sylenth1, nexus, spire but I don’t really have many effects plugins.
At the beginning of june your new track will be released and you are going to play at Tomorrowland. Are we going to discover new CURBI style like your latest track “Shinai”? Can you tell us something about next collaborations?
I’m going to release a new “4 tracks EP” in June, with Spinnin’ Records! I’m gonna keep my style but I will develop it trying new genres shapes. Recently I released “Bruh” with my bro Mesto, but I’ve also finished a new track in collaboration with Lucas & Steve & Mike Williams. I’m also working on a new project with Hasse de Moor.
What is your relationship with your main label Spinnin’ Records? About music industry, what do you think about free downloads, gates and streaming services?
My relationship with Spinnin’ is great, they’re always very open and they’re building me up! I think that if you’re a beginning artist, gates and free downloads are a good option to grow your audience and fan base. About streaming, it’s crazy because in the past you could buy music on Beatport while now there are many services such as Spotify, Apple Music that are a real revolution!
